Better Habits to Make for 2018

You can probably think of a daily habit you perform, whether it’s checking your emails first thing in the morning or taking a shower before bed. Whatever the habit may be, it’s typically automatic, meaning you don’t give it much thought. Luckily, you have the ability to choose which habits you’d like to adopt. You’re entirely capable of making healthier habits, even though it may require a great deal of patience.

Since habits hugely impact our lives and health, why not make your habits healthy and beneficial? Here are a few healthy habits to get you started.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is non-negotiable for health. It helps the body to restore and heal, and it’s vital for hormone production, weight loss, and more. Sleeping for 8 to 10 hours is a pretty simple change to commit to. While some people may have trouble falling or staying asleep, there are often simple remedies to help with this. Whether you unwind by reading or meditating or rearrange your bedroom to create a cave designed for sound slumber, work on improving your sleep this year.

Drink Water

Water is essential for digestion, mental health, removal of toxins, and much more. Simply drinking more water every day can boost your mood, energy, and concentration. To stay hydrated, aim to drink 8 8-ounce glasses of water every day. Drink at least one cup of water for each cup of caffeinated beverage or alcohol that you drink (in addition to your regular water consumption).

Move More

Many of us have set fitness goals for our New Year’s resolutions, and for good reason. Exercise is incredibly important for our overall health, both physical and mental. The best way to stick to this goal is to make exercise fun! Switch it up by attending workout classes, hitting the gym, playing sports, swimming, and running in the park. There are plenty of ways to get moving!

Eat Healthier

Another popular New Year’s resolution is to eat healthy, which sounds pretty general. Rather than adopting a restricted diet that can be difficult to maintain, begin by incorporating more of the good stuff into your diet. Often when you make healthier food choices (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, plant-based protein) and note how much better you feel, you are usually less inclined to indulge in processed food, alcohol, and other food that can be damaging to your body. Opt to go plant-based to see how much better you feel!

Reduce Stress

Daily life can be busy and chaotic, and we often carry around stress on a regular basis. Stress can be damaging to the body and mind, so it’s worth learning how to deal with it. Consider taking up meditation or yoga to alleviate your stress and worries.
