Beat the Summer Heat with These Tips

Stay cool this season with these tips.

The summer days are upon us, and the temperatures are edging higher and higher. Although there’s nothing quite like enjoying the sunshine on a summer’s day, it’s important to be mindful of the heat. With summer comes the risk of heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Avoid accident and injury by staying cool this summer with these tips.

 Hydrate

This is the most important thing that you can do to beat heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you need to, you can add fresh mint, cucumber slices, or fruit to water for flavor to get drinking more. Always have a bottle of water nearby so that you can keep sipping.

Eat your water

Summer is the best way to treat yourself with interesting veggies and fruits. Make sure that you have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that are water-rich to help keep you hydrated and cool, such as cucumber, watermelon, bell peppers, tomatoes, and kiwis.

Stay inside

If possible, avoid going outside during the heat of the day. If you have to be out in the sun, wear a hat or use an umbrella to block out the sun.

Be smart about exercise

Ideally, get a gym membership and avoid exercising in the heat of the sun. If that isn’t possible, opt for swimming in a community pool or playing sport indoors that can help you exercise without being in the heat.

Pay attention to the signs

Hopefully it never comes to this, but make sure you know the signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, nausea, disorientation, lack of sweating. If you think yourself or someone else has heat stroke, seek medical attention and cool down ASAP.
