Classes of RVs and Motorhomes and their Differences
RVs and Motorhomes are divided into three classes, each having its own common manufacturers.
- Class A: They are the biggest types of RVs and are built using a commercial bus, truck, or motor home chassis. Although they have poor fuel economy, they are luxurious and equipped with large storage space and roomy interiors. These RVs can carry at least two to eight people, and they come with singular bedrooms and fold-down beds. They also have a towing capacity of 5000lbs. - Class B: These motorhomes are as wide as camper vans, and they’re physically similar to an oversized van. Not only do they offer excellent fuel economy, but also they’re easy to drive and come fully equipped with a kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Although there’s limited storage place compared to the Class A RVs, the Class B motorhomes are the least expensive of the three classes and the most economical. Their common manufacturers are Advanced RV, Coachmen, Airstream, Custom Coach, and Winnebago Industries.
- Class C: This class of RVs and motorhomes is like a mixture of the two aforementioned classes. They are averagely economic and have gas mileage ranging between class A and class B motorhomes. They are useful and able to tow a small car and easily fit into a parking space while you may explore the city. The Class C RVs and motorhomes built with a cabin chassis can be easily spotted due to their over-cab sleeping area. They can also carry six to eight people depending on the brand and size, and the position of the beds above the cab allows for additional room in the living room. Their common manufacturers are Thor Motor Coach, Dynamax, Jayco, Forest River RV, and Haulmark Motor Coach.
