The kitchen is one of the main areas of your home during the Thanksgiving holiday! With all the family activities going on, safety is a very important aspect! Here are some simple tips to make sure your Thanksgiving is a safe one!
General Safety:
-Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children and never leave kids alone with lit candles.
-Make sure your smoke alarms are working by testing them and replacing the batteries if necessary.
Cooking Safety:
-Stay in the kitchen when cooking to keep an eye all of the food.
-Stay at home when cooking your turkey and check it regularly to make sure it is cooking properly.
-Keep young children away from the stove and hot foods or liquids to prevent any serious accidents.
-Clear the floor area so that you can safely move around your kitchen without tripping.
-Make sure electric cords are not near any liquids or dangling off any counters to prevent any electrical mishaps!
Safe Turkey Preparation:
-Thaw your turkey using one of the three safe thawing methods to avoid bacteria growth: in the refrigerator, in cold water, or in a microwave oven.
-Clean your hands, utensils, and preparations surfaces before preparing the turkey and before working with any other foods.
-Make sure the turkey is completely thawed before cooking it.
-Use a food thermometer to make sure the turkey has reached a safe minimum internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
